Ready to Publish? An Inside Look into the Illinois English Bulletin
Adam Oldaker and Jen Gruca5
Do you have some writing on hand that you’ve thought about trying to get published? Maybe a short story that you wrote for fun? A poem that captures something important to you? A strong scholarly essay that you wrote a few years ago? Perhaps you love reading and want to share your enthusiasm through reviews, or maybe you’re truly excited about a lesson or classroom project that went really well and you want to share details about it with other English educators. Whether you are a researcher, innovative teacher, fiction writer, poet, devoted reader, or aspiring author, this session is for you. Join the new editors of the Illinois English Bulletin as they provide an inside look at the oldest peer-reviewed ENGLISH EDUCATION journal in the United States. They will share its recent history, their vision for future issues, and tips for having your work accepted. They will also explain what happens behind the scenes after submissions arrive. What does it mean to have your work peer reviewed? What role does revision play in the publication process? What happens after a submission is accepted? Additionally, they plan to facilitate a brief writing workshop where you can get started on a new submission. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the publication process, practical strategies for preparing work for submission, and a concrete plan for developing a piece of writing for the Illinois English Bulletin.
