Rewriting the Post Secondary Script: Ensuring All Students—Not Just the College Bound—Benefit from Purposeful ELA Instruction
Rewriting the Post Secondary Script: Ensuring All Students—Not Just the College Bound—Benefit from Purposeful ELA Instruction

Our curricular development and expectations largely center on preparing students for college, but how do we meet the needs of students who have other post-secondary plans? With both aspirations for careers in the trades and university costs on the rise, this session will consider reading, writing, speaking, and research opportunities for students whose plans after graduation do not include academia.
In our district we continue to thoroughly prepare college-bound students. However, we have increased our explicit career readiness preparation including the National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT Workkeys).
This session will provide attendees with practical applications for single-student differentiation, whole class activities, long-range projects, and course design. There will be something for everyone who wants to address this need in ways both small or large.
Our work is rooted in research from NCTE, The College Board, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as well as district-level data.
